The highway patrol vehicle had stopped behind a stranded car on I-95, and the Tesla slammed into it. The police car, while a Ford, was fortunately not a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autosafety.org\/popular-police-cars-crown-victorias-prone-explode-tied-deaths\/\">Crown Victoria; those had an unfortunate tendency to explode when hit from behind.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.autobison.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/tesla-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-926\" src=\"https:\/\/www.autobison.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/tesla-1.jpg\" alt=\"crashed tesla\" width=\"643\" height=\"288\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.autobison.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/tesla-1.jpg 643w, https:\/\/www.autobison.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/tesla-1-440x197.jpg 440w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 643px) 100vw, 643px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Conventional cars with forward laser-and-camera systems, such as any GM, Ford, or Chrysler equipped with forward collision sensors, would most likely have stopped even without \u201cautonomous driving\u201d capabilities. Tesla has reportedly placed its trust mainly in video cameras.<\/p>\n<p>The police car, according to the state police, had \u201ctheir emergency lights activated, with an additional flare pattern behind the cruisers.\u201d The Tesla driver was apparently checking on his dog in the back seat when the crash occured; he kept on going before another trooper pulled him over and handed a ticket for reckless driving and reckless endangerment.
