Brooks from DragTimes<\/a> got the opportunity to drive a GT500 both on the strip and on the course. After an onslaught of burnouts, tours, and laps around the track, Brooks geared up to run the quarter-mile and boy were the results impressive.<\/p>\n

In this video<\/a>, a more straight-line focused GT500 is used to complete the quarter- mile. For those who are interested in the quarter-mile times and everything in-between, skip to 14:45 where you will see a GT500 shredding its tires. The beautiful blue Mustang managed to get a pretty good jump off the line but later picked up incredible speed down the strip. The quarter-mile time was clocked at an impressive 10.6 seconds at 133 mph. The 1\/8 mile time was about 7 seconds and the time it took to reach 60 feet was recorded at 1.750 seconds.<\/p>\n

The Dodge Challenger Redeye Widebody runs an official 10.8 seconds at 131 mph. The standard Challenger Hellcat Widebody runs an official 10.9 seconds at 127 mph. The Camaro ZL1 cannot get in the 10s without additional modifications so the Redeye looks to be the perfect competitor for the GT500. However, it does look like the GT500 is going to outperform the Redeye on the strip. This is, of course, to be expected because the body of the Dodge Challenger dates back almost 10 years ago. We have to give it to FCA for being able to produce such a heavy vehicle that is as capable in a straight line as the GT500. The Ford Mustang was all-new in 2015 and the engine that Ford developed for the GT500 is simply more advanced than the Hemi engine found in the Hellcat Redeye.<\/p>\n

However, both vehicles have their pros and cons. It is great to have options like these in a time where electrification is on the rise and those who seek to have a pure gas engine still have the option to buy one. The GT500 has been touted by some as the greatest Ford Mustang ever produced.
