GM made two big announcements on the second of October. The first was the debut of the highly anticipated convertible C8 Corvette. Starting at $67,495, the hard-top ‘Vette has some nifty specs. It can convert from closed to open, and the reverse, in 16 seconds and can be activated at speeds up to 30 miles per hour. An official weight increase has not been given but it is expected to be less than 80 pounds. The rear of the car has been re-worked in more than just one way. The rear hatch decklid has been modified into a vented tonneau cover. Also included is a separate cover for the rear trunk. The buyer still can opt for the Z51 package when building their convertible Corvette. Minimal changes to the springs and dampers were also included in the hard-top C8.

In a surprising announcement, GM also introduced the race car version of their C8. Details regarding the C8.R are not well-known. However, there are some cool aero features such as a massive wing that make the C8.R an attention-seeker. We do know that the hot race car will make its debut at the Daytona 24 next January. We can only speculate on the powertrain at this point. In the meantime, enjoy this clip of the fast-revving and beautiful C8.R. More details are expected to emerge regarding both the race car and C8 in the coming months.
