We all knew this would happen sooner or later: in Canada, because Pacifica and Voyager sales have remained pitiful, the cheap version of the Pacifica has had a name change from “Voyager” to “Grand Caravan.” (Not Caravan, but Grand Caravan.)

The 2020 Dodge Grand Caravan remained the best selling minivan in Canada, but was recently discontinued; the less-expensive version of the Pacifica, the Chrysler Voyager, has not caught on, north of the border. (The Voyager name was originally used by Plymouth, but when Chrysler minivans were sold in Europe, they called them Chrysler Voyagers rather than Chrysler Town & Countrys. When Plymouth was dropped the Voyager name briefly moved to Chrysler in North America as well.)

The Chrysler Grand Caravan is to be sold as a base model with no trim name, and as the SXT; the Grand Caravan starts at $37,995 (in Canadian currency) while the SXT costs $2,000 more. The minivan, to be built in Ontario, will go on sale in the third quarter, when existing Dodge Grand Caravan stock is likely to be drawn down.

""Voyager interior is likely also Grand Caravan interior

The minivan comes with seven passenger seating, active noise cancellation, a 3.5-inch trip computer, and a seven-inch central touch screen with CarPlay and Auto. SafetyTec, roofrack, cold weather features, and such are optional on the SXT but not the base model. The base model has a non-folding bench middle seat; eight-passenger seating and fold-into-the-floor seats are options.

All Chrysler minivans in the US and Canada come with the same 287-hp V6 engine and nine-speed automatic; side-curtain and front knee blocker airbags; rain-brake support; electric parking brakes; sliding door alerts; and, in Canada at least, heated outside mirrors.

The base model comes with steel wheels. The SXT adds removable bucket seats for the second row, storage bins in the floor, power eight-way driver’s seats, aluminum wheels, triple-zone climate control with rear vents, express power front windows, audio controls on the steering wheels, LED interior reading lamps, floor mats, and a mirror for the driver to see the passengers.

Only six colors are offered: two metallic grays, black, white, ocean blue, and velvet red. Interiors are black or taffee, cloth only; buyers who want leather get a Pacifica.
