Rumors about a supercharged V8 in a pickup truck started with the Ram Rebel TRX when it made its debut at the State Fair of Texas back in 2016. Since then, Ram has confirmed the existence of a Hellcat going in the Rebel. It is expected to debut sometime this year and will be going up against the Ford Raptor.

GM has been quiet about a forced induction high-output engine going in either the Sierra or Silverado. However, it seems like the reality of a high-performance truck (other than the upcoming Hummer) from GM is about to become true. Last year, GM filed for the trademark ZRX and recent reports suggest that this name will be used for the Silverado.

We expect the Silverado 1500 ZRX to use the LT4 engine from the Camaro that produces 650 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque. It will likely have the 10-speed automatic. A manual would be cool but unlikely. The ZRX is expected to have an upgraded suspension, MultiMatic DSSV dampers, and new aero bits to make the truck more off-road capable.

As stated in the previous article, Ford looks to be turning to hybrid technology to power the upcoming Raptor. If these rumors hold true, it will be interesting to see how two supercharged V8s compete against a hybrid V6.
