Over the past few years, the number of electric cars available has increased dramatically. From hypercars to pickups, there are electric options for nearly every segment of the market. One trend that has emerged is the coupling of versatile body styles–utility vehicles, for instance–with extreme performance that can be achieved through electrification. Ford’s Mustang Mach-E and Tesla’s Model Y both boast about their quick acceleration time, so when will Dodge, America’s muscle car brand, respond with their own electric vehicle?<\/p>\n
Although there are no rumors surrounding a Dodge EV at the moment, we wanted to take a look at a hypothetical electric Dodge SUV using a more modern interpretation of the brand’s current design language.<\/p>\n
The upper part of the front end uses the familiar Dodge “masked bandit” grille and headlight design seen on the Charger and Durango. As electric vehicles don’t require grilles, a smooth body panel in the shape of the current Dodge grille is used lower down on the front fascia. Air intakes to the sides of the fascia deflect air to improve range, similar to the function of the new Silverado’s controversial fascia flaps.<\/p>\n
The side uses a deeply-cut scallop that adds influence from the Charger, while the upward kink on the side window is inspired by the Challenger. The floating roof and simple body lines near the back of the vehicle are meant to enhance its muscular appeal. The legally-required rear sidelights are integrated into the space between the floating D-pillar and the body to allow a cleaner design.<\/p>\n
