The best-selling line of pickups in America, the Ford F-Series is about to receive a major boost with the addition of an updated F-150. While there have been a few spy shots of the new model testing, none of those images have revealed much about the design of the new truck.<\/p>\n
Many people are expecting the F-150 to hew closely to the design of the current pickup, as has been a tradition with the F-Series trucks for the past few generations. Ford seems reluctant to give these trucks a radical redesign, likely because they fear alienating their loyal customers. With the F-150 tied so closely with Ford’s identity, it’s hard to blame them for evolving the design over the years instead of introducing revolutionary updates that instantly dated prior model years.<\/p>\n
We created this speculative rendering to envision what the F-150 could look like with a smoother, modernized design theme.\u00a0Although it’s unlikely that Ford will abandon their C-shaped LED signature lighting that’s been found on recent F-Series trucks, we wanted to imagine a less garish take on the traditional Ford design language, moving away from the squared-off design themes that they’ve been using for quite some time.<\/p>\n
Aside from the design, Ford will be updating the powertrain roster for the next generation truck, having\u00a0already confirmed that the F-150 will soon offer a selection of hybrid powertrains, including plug-in hybrid variants. With this news, the EcoBoost engine family, and the new diesel option, it seems as though Ford is doubling down on efficiency for their best-selling nameplate. The 5.0L V8 may also be replaced with a slightly smaller, more efficient V8, though there aren’t any concrete details on that engine at this point.<\/p>\n
As far as trim levels go, the Raptor may not be available immediately at launch, as has been the case with both generations thus far, the Raptor will again be available as the F-150’s aggressively styled, off-road trim level. The current Raptor may live on alongside the next-generation lineup as a stop-gap until the truly new Raptor arrives on the scene. With increasing competition as Ram is gearing up to launch the supercharged Rebel TRX, Ford will need to up their game as they are no longer the only player in the high-performance off-road pickup segment.<\/p>\n
