This \u201cskateboard\u201d is a frame, suspension, and powertrain set up for Class 3 trucks (akin to Ram 3500 and Ford F-350).<\/p>\n

If, say, Ram wanted to sell an electric Ram 3500 dump truck, motor home, or even chassis cab, they could order a bunch of E-Chassis and sell them. More likely, an ambulance or truck maker would buy them and do the rest themselves, perhaps using sheet metal and such from traditional automakers.<\/p>\n

Bollinger will sell the chassis with two or four wheel drive, in several different wheelbases and two battery-pack sizes; it goes on sale next year, but can be ordered before then. Bollinger is based in a city north of Detroit (it was originally in New York, but somehow the Northeast doesn\u2019t have the same automotive infrastructure). The company is completely owned by Robert Bollinger, who now realizes he needs to raise around $100 million more; the 52-year-old company founder is a cosmetics mogul. Cummins is further ahead in powertrain but doesn’t sell a complete chassis; and Rivian seems locked in to Ford and Amazon.<\/p>\n
