A Bloomberg News story by Josh Eidelson and Dana Hull used state records to show that worker safety is a real issue at Tesla. The electric automaker logged hundreds of injuries which it failed to report to the government, according to a state memo; the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health (CDOSH) has cited Tesla for failing to record other injuries in its logs at all. The pattern of deception appears to date back to 2015.<\/p>\n

Elon Musk appears to have lied about the CDOSH investigation in 2018, when he claimed on an earnings call that the agency had decided Tesla had not underreported injuries; even last month, the company said an agency review had supports its records.<\/p>\n

According to the Bloomberg story, California also found that Tesla had lied about its AutoPilot safety data during a 2017 investigation. The state found around three dozen incidents in 2018 alone which were withheld from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration; and that around 44% of AutoPilot incidents were left out of a 2016 summary.<\/p>\n

Tesla already had an above-average work-related-injury-and-illness rate of 6.2 employees per hundred 2018; adding the cases California discovered raises the rate to 6.5.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
