What’s up with Cadillac’s Blackwing V8?
The “Blackwing V8” engine designed from the ground up was supposed to be Cadillac’s new flagship engine. Debuting on the 2019 CT6, the 550 horsepower powerplant now has a questionable future.
Cadillac recently announced plans to introduce a significant amount of electric vehicles. The big V8, however, seems to not be a part of that future. In simplest terms, the engine will still live but not with GM. It appears that the 4.2 V8 twin-turbo engine will likely be sold to other companies. What companies do you ask? We do not know for certain but we speculate that Mantifattura Automobili Torino (MAT) will use this engine for an unknown model that is set to be released in the future.
On the brighter side, GM is still looking to put high-performance engines in their vehicles, just not this specific one. The upcoming C8 Corvette engines may give find its way into some Cadillac models but we are willing to bet that this probably will not be the case. Instead, GM will look towards electrification to power their vehicles going forward.
