AutoBison General Motors GM and pricing the C8

GM and pricing the C8

03/27/2020 Donovan Webb

The 2020 C8 Corvette is slowly starting to arrive at dealerships across the United States. Many are being priced well above MSRP but that is not stopping some from purchasing a C8.

The 2020 Corvette starts at just under $60,000. GM shocked the automotive world last July when this number came out. However, a source that spoke with Motor Trend stated that the C8 is not very profitable. According to the source, GM loses money on every 2020 Corvette that is priced under $80,000. The source has also stated that the starting MSRP of the new Corvette is going to increase with every new model year.

The $60,000 starting price for the C8 was most likely put in place to attract customers. Starting the Corvette at $80,000 would likely scare some buyers, as the price jump from a C7 would be too substantial. This similar tactic may be used for the upcoming Z06 to lure more customers. We figure that the new Z06 should start at under $100,000 to attract more buyers.
