Comparing the new Koenigsegg Gemera to the Tesla Roadster
Koenigsegg once again has grabbed headlines with the unveiling of their new (and wicked fast) Gemera. The Koenigsegg Gemera is the world’s first “Mega-GT” and Koenigsegg’s first vehicle with four seats. Tesla unveiled its Roadster back in November 2017, though it hasn’t hit production yet; it also boasted four seats and unbelievable performance numbers.
Gemera. The Gemera boasts an outstanding 1,700 horsepower and 2,581 lb-ft of torque. It can do 0-62 mph in 1.9 seconds, thanks to a sophisticated powerplant; the 2.0 liter, 3-cylinder engine that uses a “Free Valve” system that makes 600 horsepower and 442 lb-ft of torque. Three electric motors boost those numbers to the thousands. All-wheel-drive is the only drivetrain; and four-wheel steering improves handling, as well. The Gemera can travel up to about 620 miles, while minimizing emissions from its “Tiny Friendly Giant.” Top speed is 249 mph and pricing has yet to be announced.
Roadster. The Tesla Roadster is fully electric; it’s also all wheel drive, but only has the traditional front wheel steering. It can do 0-60 in 1.9 seconds—the same time as the Gemera—and the quarter-mile comes up in 8.8 seconds. The Roadster has a top speed of over 250 mph, and a driving range of roughly 620 miles. It too has 4 seats; Tesla expects the car to be released before the 2022 calendar year, with prices starting at $200,000. (The full 620-mile range and power ratings may come at extra cost, based on past Tesla practice.)
Summary: In our opinion, the Roadster seems to be more of a bargain, since the Koenigsegg will likely cost over a million dollars. The numbers are strikingly similar, but the prices are strikingly different. If you have the money and still want an internal combustion engine on tap, then the Koenigsegg is for you. However, if you would like to save a few hundred thousand dollars, then I suggest placing an order for the Roadster. The Roadster, despite not being released to the public, is still projected to be the king of this segment, and we are still waiting for something to top it.hello
