Tesla: Unintended Acceleration Allegations Are Fake News
With a short press release sent out this week, Tesla has claimed the allegations about unintended acceleration in their vehicles are completely false, stating that the latest round of allegations were released by a short-seller who profits when Tesla shares decrease in value. The company also mentioned that they have several safety measures in place to prevent this from happening in their vehicles. One of those measures is the use of Autopilot sensors to help determine if an acceleration event was an error in order to brake before a collision occurs.
Tesla also claims they have investigated, along with NHTSA, every instance in which an owner claimed their car accelerated unintentionally and found that in every case, the car operated as designed.
For those of you worried that this may be a recurring problem, this news somewhat of a relief. The NHTSA is currently looking into these allegations, though it hasn’t yet decided to open a formal investigation.
