Rivian reveals revised rates to Reuters

According to Reuters, Rivian’s midrange 2021 R1T pickup will cost under $70,000, and the 2021 R1S utility will run around $72,000.

The new prices came from founder R.J. Scaringe, and, in the case of the truck, include the natty color-changing skylight and a somewhat more important 300-mile range. Depending on which battery the buyer chooses, the range can be as high as 400 miles, or as low as 230 miles.

Rivian is using the old Mitsubishi-Chrysler “Diamond Star” factory in Normal, Illinois. Both Amazon and Ford have invested heavily in Rivian, which will make around 100,000 Amazon vans over the next few years.

Rivian’s prices are not exceptionally high, depending on performance and feel; Lincoln is set to make an identically priced SUV, and luxury Ford, Ram, and Chevrolet pickups come close to six figures.
