Will there be a regular cab option on the fifth generation Ram 1500?
Ram has been fairly quiet since the launch of the redesigned Ram Heavy Duty lineup. The special edition models on the aging but still successful fourth- generation Ram 1500 have kept things fresh. However, one thing that some truck fans are unhappy about it is the disappearance of a regular cab “DT” Ram 1500.
Lots of business owners seek stripped work trucks for their jobs to cut down on costs. Ram technically has not disappeared from the segment with the fourth generation Ram offering a regular cab both on their light-duty and heavy-duty versions.
But why is there no regular cab for the new body style?
Well, there are multiple reasons for this. The first is that regular cab trucks make about 5% of truck sales. Another reason why we have not seen the 5th generation Ram 1500 regular cab is because of FCA’s current production locations. Warren truck is currently running Ram Classic models and FCA’s Mexico plant is running Ram HD and regular cab Ram 1500 (DS) models at capacity.
We have not heard any news regarding the debut of a 5th generation Ram 1500 in the near future. Ram most likely has their current goals set towards the Ram Rebel TRX, which will debut in June 2020, and the all-new 5th generation Ram Heavy Duty, which will debut sometime before the 2022 calendar year.
