Local paper shoots Rivian electric truck, SUV chassis
Rivian held an open house for the city of Normal, Illinois, where it is setting up to build its electric cars and trucks. As part of that event, local newspapers were able to photograph the Rivian “skateboard” chassis and get other new shots of the innovative trucks.
The Rivian design includes a “tunnel” behind the rear seat, which can fit accessories such as camp stoves.
Tesla has been selectively leaking rumors on a regular basis as Rivian gets closer to actual production, presumably to get potential buyers to hold off on Rivian purchases. However, Amazon will soak up a good deal of Rivian capacity for the next two years, with a massive order for electric delivery vans.
The city of Normal celebrated partly by renaming Mitsubishi Way to Rivian Way, over the objections of one council member who felt naming streets after automakers was not a sensible plan in the long run.
